Common reasons why your Yanmar might be overheating

It is NORMAL for water to flow out of the radiator into the plastic bottle on the side. This does not necessarily mean that it is overheating. It does this because the water is heating up and expanding

A missing gear tooth is the inevitable cause. Removal of the transmission cover will verify. It is best not to use that particular gear as any load can cause more teeth to dislodge, get into other gears/bearings and cause more extensive damage.

John Tractor Hydraulics Troubleshooting Guide

 · Other problems include transmission failure, a half-broken tractor frame and white smoke in the vent. A faulty power take-off light or a blown fuse may result in the failure of the tractor to start. To fix this, repair the light and replace the fuse. A worn out filter or a defective seal can cause hydraulic fluid to leak.

Checking/Verifiying the Hydraulic Pressure on your Tractor

 · Step 1) Operate the machine a little to get the fluid close to normal operating temperature (ambient plus 100* or so is normal). Drive it around, use the loader, whatever just get the fluid warmed up. Step 2) Plug the gauge into any available QD port. I used one of my rear remotes since my plow is still hooked up to the mid-SCV:.

Loader Won't Lift

 · The loader just up and quit lifting, though the bucket will curl and the three-point works fine. There's fluid going to the barrel side of the rams, but not to the shaft sides. My father-in-law said this happened once before and they replaced the selective control module under warranty.

Symptoms of a Bad or Failing Transmission Oil Pressure

 · One of these components is the transmission oil pressure switch, which is designed to monitor the amount of pressure built up inside the transmission case as fluid flows through a series of chambers and channels to permit the transmission to smoothly shift gears. Like any other sensor, it can become damaged or simply wear out over time.

Yesterday's Tractors

A pump can be of a number of varieties ranging from a piston style with an adjustable swash plate to a simple vane type. Many tractors, though, use a simple gear type pump. The oil comes in the larger of the two openings, enters the gear tooth cavity, and then is expelled when the gears mesh, thus forcing oil into a smaller high-pressure line.

 · There is also a strainer @ the bottom of the tank. You may want to check your throttle linkage. My hydraulics were slow when I got my pc-75, and I finally looked at my throttle linkage and was only getting about 2/3's full throttle. Makes a big difference! Not sure why it was set that way, but it was.

Crawler Loader/Dozer Common Faults

 · I have a 455C Case Loader and when operating after 15 to 20 minutes the transmission pressure builds up so high that it blew the filter and the filter housing apart. After fixing it back, I put a inline pressure gage on the filter assembly and then within 10 to 15 minutes it blew the "O" ring out of the filter and the pressure raised over.

Symptoms of Common Hydraulic Problems and Their Root Causes

When fluid moves from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure without performing useful work (pressure drop), heat is generated. This means that any component that has abnormal internal leakage will increase the heat load on the system. This could be anything from a cylinder that is leaking high-pressure fluid past its piston seal.
